FUND RAISING —
Due to the foresight and courage of two members,
Rotary established one of the best service club
fund-raising schemes in the world. It is nearly
painless! Pierre/Ft. Pierre Rotary is the pipe and
drape (booth building) resource for central South
Dakota. Occasional work parties bring in over
$15,000 each year!
SCHOLARSHIPS — Thanks to the generosity of
past Rotarians, we administer approximately $7,500
in scholarships given to Riggs & Stanley County
graduates. Students at CUC and The Right Turn also
receive Rotary-backed scholarships.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT — Each year many local
organizations receive project funds from the
Pierre-Fort Pierre Rotary Club. Oahe, Inc., SD
Make-A-Wish, Capitol City Children’s Choir, 4-H BB
Gun Club, SD Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Celebration,
Oahe Red Cross, Pierre Area Referral, and Missouri
Shores Domestic Violence Center are just a few
recent grantees.
DISCOVERY CENTER — In recent years the
Discovery Center has been a recipient of annual
funding in the amount of $2,500/year.
COMMUNITY BANQUET — Each May Rotary members,
led by the Community Development Committee, join
together to prepare a free meal for the Community
Banquet. As many as forty club members enjoy
preparing and serving the meal and dining with
Banquet guests at the Southeast United Methodist
Church.
ONE-OF-A-KIND PROJECT — For several years
parents of Pierre and Ft. Pierre grade school
children have been provided individual ID kits by
Rotary. Workshops are held in each school each year.
SPRAY PARK — Rotary plans to build a $250,000
Spray/Splash Park for the Pierre/Ft. Pierre
community. The goal of creating a major project in
the community was conceived in 2007. Planning and
fund raising for the project have begun.
ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE — Every other year the
club arranges to host a high school age student from
another country. The last two have been Tales Couto
of Brazil (2006-07) and Theresa Marie Klingen of
Germany (2008-09).
GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE — Nearly every year
Pierre/Ft. Pierre hosts a team of four-to-six
professionals from another country. Rotarians host
team members in their homes. GSE Teams are also
recruited from South Dakota to go abroad.
WEEKLY MEETINGS — Speakers at Monday meetings
are invited and introduced by the Rotarian assigned
(in alphabetical order) host responsibility .
WEEKLY NEWLETTERS — Rotary publishes a weekly
newsletter emailed to all members. Members without
email receive a copy by snail mail.
